During a presser in Lamerd (a city in Fars Province in southern Iran), Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Washington’s admission of testing a new missile in the region, combined with undeniable field evidence, refutes U.S. denials and confirms the intentional nature of the crime against civilians.
Baqaei emphasized the criminal nature of these assaults, noting: “Based on separate investigations by the Ministry of Health, the weapons utilized included chemical agents specifically designed to increase the fatality rate. The investigation revealed that the munitions were of the prohibited cluster missile type, each containing 180,000 pellets, and that all impact zones were strictly residential and civilian areas.”
He further detailed the intensity of the attack, adding: “Four missiles struck the city of Lamerd, a city with a population of 30,000, within a span of just 35 seconds, leaving the community in mourning. We will seriously pursue justice and will utilize every opportunity to expose this war crime, ensuring the global community joins us in demanding accountability for the martyrs of Lamerd.”
The spokesman recalled that on the same day Lamerd was struck by missiles, the city of Minab was also targeted, resulting in the deaths of 168 people, including students and teacheres.
Addressing the human toll, particularly regarding the children affected, Baghaei remarked: “Two-year-old Avina, who was martyred in the Lamerd attack, has become a symbol of the Iranian people’s suffering in the face of US and Zionist regime aggression. The pellets that struck Avina were so deep that they tore her body apart.”
