Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that no country can address today’s global challenges on its own, adding that BRICS should work toward creating collective capacities and mechanisms to strengthen cooperation among its members.
The theme of this summit, “Resilience, Cooperation and Sustainability,” is not merely a slogan, Pezeshkian stressed and noted: "These three concepts represent responses to three fundamental global needs at a time when the fate of nations is more interconnected than ever before. Our challenge is not only to manage today’s crises, but also to build a system that makes nations more capable of withstanding future crises and creates a fairer world for generations to come. BRICS should be part of the global response to this necessity."
Pezeshkian emphasized that BRICS must serve as a platform for global justice, security, and sustainable development, while outlining three pillars for the bloc’s future: resilience, cooperation, and sustainability.
Economic Resilience: To counter the vulnerability caused by unilateral sanctions, Pezeshkian urged BRICS members to expand trade in national currencies and strengthen the New Development Bank. He stressed that economic sovereignty is inseparable from security, noting that recent U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran’s infrastructure have triggered regional instability the impacts of which go beyond the regional borders.
A Call for Accountability: Highlighting the humanitarian crises in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, he called upon the international community to move beyond rhetoric and effectively uphold international law. He insisted that BRICS must take a stronger stance in defending countries' national sovereignty and territorial integrity against military aggression.
Collective Capabilities: Pezeshkian proposed transforming the “dispersed capacities” of the Global South into “shared capabilities.” He noted that Iran’s unique geopolitical position and energy infrastructure are ready to be integrated into broader BRICS trade and transit networks.
The President pointed out that development cannot come at the cost of future generations or environmental destruction caused by war. He further stated that emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, must be used to empower countries rather than act as instruments of geopolitical domination.
Pezeshkian characterized BRICS as a vital movement toward a more balanced, inclusive world order and concluded that true resilience requires cooperation, which in turn demands justice, and none of these are possible without enduring peace and security.
