The Public Relations office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement rejecting the baseless claims made by the Swedish government regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran and condemned the decision by the Swedish Foreign Ministry to prevent an Iranian diplomat working at the Iranian Embassy in Sweden from continuing their duties.
The statement reads: "The Swedish government, in an unjustified act contrary to the norms of international law, has required a diplomat working at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Stockholm to leave Swedish territory without any justifiable reason. At the same time, the Swedish government has raised baseless accusations regarding Iran's alleged interference in the country's security affairs."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while rejecting the claims and accusations raised against Iran, considers the Swedish government's action in obstructing the Iranian diplomat's activities to be completely unjustified and condemns it.
This action by the Swedish government is undoubtedly the result of influence exerted by the Zionist regime and an attempt to disrupt the normal functions of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Stockholm.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran reminds the Swedish government of its obligations under international law, including the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and notes that the Swedish government's unjustified action in disrupting the embassy's functions will entail international responsibility.
It is evident that the Islamic Republic of Iran will take the necessary measures to protect its national rights and interests, including through reciprocal action.
Accordingly, this morning, Thursday, September 17, 2026, the Swedish Ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Alireza Yousefi, the Director General for Western Europe.
During the meeting, the Islamic Republic of Iran's strong protest regarding Sweden's destructive policies toward Iran, specifically its absurd rhetoric regarding Iran and its hosting of anti-Iranian terrorist elements and groups, was conveyed to him.
During the summons, while Sweden's baseless claims against Iran were rejected, including the country's action in preventing an Iranian diplomat from continuing their work in Sweden, it was communicated to the Ambassador that one of his country's diplomats in Tehran must leave Iran within 48 hours for clear reasons that were explained to the Ambassador.
