Speaking to Iran Press, Rahmani Rezaieh said the municipality had continued the initiative this year by inviting ambassadors from a number of countries whose participation could help establish new channels of communication and cooperation between Urmia and other cities.
Several ambassadors accepted the invitations and attended the festival, while others were unable to participate because of scheduling conflicts, he said.
The mayor stressed that the festival should go beyond being a cultural event and produce tangible and lasting outcomes. One of the municipality’s main objectives, he said, is to expand ties between Urmia and other cities and create opportunities for exchanges involving business, industrial, social, cultural and sports delegations.
Rahmani Rezaieh said discussions with ambassadors had also led to plans to establish direct and effective relations between Urmia and several cities abroad.
He added that the municipality was working toward establishing sister-city relations with some of those cities, describing such ties as a potential platform for expanding practical cooperation and strengthening direct connections in various fields.
