Meeting with Azerbaijani foreign minister
On Tuesday afternoon, Araghchi met with Jeyhun Bayramov, the foreign minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as part of his consultations with countries taking part in the annual UN General Assembly session.
The two sides exchanged views on Iran–Azerbaijan bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments. Reviewing the agreements and understandings reached between the two countries in various economic and trade fields, and on security and cooperation in the South Caucasus region, the two foreign ministers underlined their countries' determination to implement those agreements and to strengthen cooperation and coordination in line with the interests of the two nations.
The Iranian foreign minister also gave an account of the latest developments in the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, stressing Iran's resolve to defend its sovereignty and national interests in the face of the aggression and illegal pressure exerted by the U.S. and the Zionist regime.
Meeting with Austrian foreign minister
Araghchi and his Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, met and held talks on the sidelines of the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
The two sides discussed the most important international and regional developments, as well as bilateral issues of mutual interest to the two countries.
Briefing his counterpart on the current situation in the region, the Iranian foreign minister said the prevailing insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and the disruption to shipping are the direct result of the aggressive actions of the U.S. and the Zionist regime, stressing that the restoration of shipping security in the region requires an end to the U.S.'s destabilizing actions and economic terrorism.
He also referred to the ongoing genocide of the Palestinians, the Zionist regime's gross violations of international law, and its continued aggression against Lebanon and other countries of the region, underlining the responsibility of all countries — particularly European states — to end any form of support for the occupying regime and to put a stop to its impunity.
Meeting with Dutch foreign minister
Araghchi, who is in New York to attend the annual UN General Assembly session, also met and conferred with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Brendson.
The two sides discussed Iran–Netherlands bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.
Strongly criticizing the double standards of European countries toward regional developments — particularly their silence and appeasement in the face of the aggressive actions and crimes committed by the U.S. and the Zionist regime against Iran — the Iranian foreign minister said European states cannot claim to support the rule of law and human rights while remaining indifferent to, or even supporting the overt military aggression of the U.S. and Israel against Iran.
Recalling Iran's responsible approach of resorting to diplomacy to remove U.S. pretexts over the nuclear issue, he described the U.S.'s repeated breaches of agreements and warmongering as the main cause of the current insecurity in the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the only way to restore peace and stability in the region is an end to the U.S.'s illegal and aggressive actions and respect for Iran's rights and national interests.
The Dutch foreign minister, for his part, underscored the importance of diplomacy and outlined his country's views on the current regional developments and interactions between Iran and Europe.
