In a statement, the media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister said these negotiations follow recent measures taken by the U.S. Treasury Department regarding flights by Iranian airlines to airports in the region.
The statement noted that Baghdad, in its talks with the U.S. side, has requested the exemption of certain Iraqi airports from these measures to facilitate the resumption of flights, taking humanitarian considerations into account.
The Iraqi government listed medical treatment, education, religious pilgrimages, and the interests of civilians as the primary reasons it has presented for resuming these flights.
The Prime Minister's office also highlighted Baghdad's efforts to reduce regional tensions, warning that the continuation of crises will lead to a further deterioration of the situation.
The Iraqi government called on all parties to pursue dialogue and negotiation to resolve ongoing crises and conflicts, urging them to keep the interests of the region's countries and nations in mind.
