The traditional religious Qali Shuyan (Carpet-Washing) ceremony took place in Mashhad Ardehal, Kashan, on the second Friday of the Iranian month of Mehr, with enthusiastic participation from pilgrims and devotees of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).

The internationally known ceremony, described as Iran’s only religious ritual based on the Solar Hijri calendar, symbolically commemorates the martyrdom of 'Sultan Ali ibn Imam Muhammad al-Baqir' (AS) and the washing of his shrouded body on a carpet by mourners from the region.

UNESCO has inscribed the Qali Shuyan ceremony on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as part of Iran’s cultural heritage.
