Long celebrated as the medical capital of Iran, Shiraz boasts 37 specialized and sub-specialized hospitals offering world-class, advanced medical procedures. The province is an internationally recognized center for complex organ transplants—including liver, kidney, pancreas, and cornea transplants—as well as cutting-edge cancer care, sight and hearing restoration therapies, and battlefield trauma surgery. Bolstering this medical ecosystem is the ongoing development of the 900-hectare “Health City” (Shahr-e Salamat), which stands as the largest private-sector investment project in the country, aimed at capturing a broader share of regional medical tourism.
Beyond its medical capabilities, Fars plays an indispensable role as a key logistics corridor along Iran’s North–South transit route. The province is uniquely positioned with an extensive multi-modal infrastructure:
Aviation: Fars is the only Iranian province operating six domestic and international airports. Shiraz’s Shahid Dastghaib International Airport ranks as the nation’s best-equipped air hub in terms of advanced navigation and electronic systems, second only to Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport.
Rail & Road Networks: The province is traversed by more than 500 kilometers of main railway tracks alongside 77 kilometers of auxiliary lines. Meanwhile, the recent inauguration of the major Shiraz–Isfahan Freeway has transformed road transport efficiency, facilitating the seamless flow of commercial freight.
Trade Infrastructure: Six dedicated customs offices operate across the province, streamlining cargo transit and cross-border trade operations.
With its combination of high-tech clinical expertise and strategic cross-border connectivity, Fars continues to establish itself as a prime destination for health tourism and transit logistics in the region.
