Head coach Roberto Piazza’s squad overcame Japan in a thrilling match, winning the first set 28-26. Japan bounced back to take the second set 25-19, but Iran regained control, winning the third set 25-21 and clinching the fourth 26-24 to secure the championship.
Iran’s path to the final was flawless, having secured victories against Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, and Indonesia in the group stage, followed by wins over South Korea and Pakistan in the knockout rounds.
Iran had won gold in the previous three editions of the Asian Games, and this victory over Japan marks their fourth consecutive title. The volleyball gold is the 19th overall for Iran's delegation at the Nagoya Asian Games.
