On Februery 28, 2026, right on the first day of its war of aggression on Iran, the U.S. targeted an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, which led to the martyrdom of 168 school childdren and teachers.
The memorial, a collaborative creative work designed and constructed by students with the guidance of university faculties, serves as both an artistic installation and a permanent tribute to the memory of the victims from the Minab school.
International Law Professor Dr. Atefeh Amini Nia told Iran Press that the Article 8 of the Rome Statute states that an intentional attack on civilian targets constitutes a war crime.
Dr. Hojjatollah Darvishpour a Professor of Politics stessed that no matter how much the U.S. tried to justify why this school, where there was no military target whatsoever, was attacked, that justification is simply not acceptable. If this had happened in the U.S. or in Europe, perhaps the press, radio, and television would have spent years discussing how brutal this crime was. But they passed over this matter very quickly and very easily.
A faculty member at Central Tehran Azad University Dr. Sussan Rahimi Bagha slams the lack of a international legal response over U.S.' targeting of Minab School. Sho told Iran Press: "If this crime happens in any country abroad, in the European ones, even the United States, nobody can tolerate. When somebody shooting them, they shout; they go to court. But for our kids, nothing happened."
A formal statement then was read on behalf of the university community to reaffirm their commitment to the prosecution of the U.S.-Israeli crime.
Among those in attendance were the Chairman of the Islamic City Council of Tehran, the Chairman of the Education and Research Commission of the Parliament, and the Head of the Islamic Azad University for Tehran Province.
The ceremony also served as a moment of national reflection, as organizers took the opportunity to honor student-martyrs from the Islamic Azad University who lost their lives during the recent U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
A separate memorial dedicated specifically to these students was also unveiled, and their families were formally recognized for their sacrifice.
