Iran has secured two gold medals and three bronze medals on the opening day of the U-23 World Wrestling Championships in the United States, following the placement and final bouts in the first five freestyle weight categories.

Iran’s first gold medal came in the 92kg category, where Abolfazl Rahmani defeated Russia's Arslan Bagayev 5-2 in the final. Rahmani had earlier beaten Jamaica's Burl Junior 11-1 in the second round, Georgia's Kurashvili 11-6 in the quarterfinals, and Turkey's Altunbash 6-3 in the semifinals.

Abolfazl Mohammadnejad secured Iran’s second gold in the 125kg category with a commanding 10-0 victory over Georgia's Abramishvili in the final. Mohammadnejad had previously defeated Ukraine's Kochanov 10-0 in the second round, Russia's Bystayev 11-0 in the quarterfinals, and Azerbaijan's Khetag Karsanov 5-0 in the semifinals.

In the 61kg category, Ebrahim Khavari won bronze after defeating Romania's Vizenhant 12-0 in the third-place bout. Khavari had lost 7-1 to American wrestler Davino in the second round but returned to the repechage bracket after his opponent advanced to the final. He then defeated Japan's Mukaida 15-4 to reach the bronze-medal match.

In the 74kg category, Ali Karampour also claimed bronze. He opened his campaign with a 13-2 victory over Austria's Bektemirov before defeating China's Batuchinggele 10-0 and Kazakhstan's Nurdaulet Silbekov by the same score to reach the semifinals. Karampour lost 10-2 by technical superiority to American Jayden James in the semifinals but bounced back to defeat Moldova’s Ion Marco 10-0 in the bronze-medal bout.

Reza Afshar earned Iran’s third bronze in the 86kg category. After losing 7-1 to Turkey’s Yagan in the opening round, Afshar entered the repechage following his opponent’s qualification for the final. He defeated Mexico's De Leon Trejo 10-0 and Armenia's Yepremian 5-2 before securing a 6-0 victory over Romania's Mihalchan in the bronze-medal bout.

The five medals marked a strong opening-day performance for Iran’s freestyle wrestling team at the under-23 world championships.
