Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for accelerating the implementation of agreements between Tehran and Moscow, highlighting energy, transport, trade and power generation as priority areas for cooperation.

Pezeshkian made the remarks on Monday during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran, where they discussed the strategic partnership, existing agreements and regional and international developments.

Iran's President said the two countries could contribute significantly to peace, sustainable security, and a multilateral international order through closer bilateral ties and the effective use of regional and international mechanisms.

Referring to his recent meetings and telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pezeshkian said the two sides were continuing to follow up on bilateral understandings, implementation plans and joint projects. He expressed hope that his upcoming visit to Moscow would help turn these agreements into tangible results.

The Iranian president also thanked Russia’s president, government and people for their support during the recent war against Iran, stressing the importance of continued solidarity and closer political and diplomatic coordination.

Pezeshkian said agreements on the Caspian Sea and trade offered opportunities to deepen economic and regional cooperation. He called for moving forward with energy, transport and power-generation projects through practical implementation mechanisms and clear timelines, emphasizing that strategic commitments should translate into concrete outcomes.

U.S.-Israeli Waged War on Iran Amidst Negotiations

Addressing regional developments, Pezeshkian condemned the U.S.-Israeli military aggression against Iran, saying the U.S. assassination of the Leader of Islamic Revolution, Iran's military commanders, scientists and schoolchildren, alongside attacks on Iranian infrastructure, had no justification under international law. He stressed that the attacks occurred while Iran was pursuing dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

Pezeshkian said Iran opposed attempts by powerful countries to impose their will on other nations through military force and political pressure. He called for an international order based on mutual respect, the rights of nations, constructive cooperation and multilateralism, noting that Iran and Russia shared common ground on these principles.

The president also emphasized that Iran had no fundamental disagreements with other countries in the region, citing longstanding historical, cultural and religious ties. He said Tehran was ready to address regional challenges through dialogue, mutual understanding and regional mechanisms.

Criticizing the presence of U.S. military bases in regional countries, Pezeshkian tld Lovrov that such deployments had contributed to tensions, division and insecurity rather than lasting stability. He said sustainable regional security required mutual trust, the participation of regional countries and respect for the legitimate interests of all parties.

Iran, he added, welcomed joint initiatives with neighboring states in security, economic development, cultural and scientific cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

President Stresses Copperation Shore-Up Through Multilateralisit Mechanisms

Pezeshkian called for greater use of multilateral institutions to facilitate trade, develop transport and transit infrastructure, and expand economic and security cooperation. He identified BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as important platforms for strengthening ties among member states and advancing a more balanced international order.

He said closer cooperation with Russia, China and other members of these organizations could help advance shared interests and reinforce multilateral approaches to international challenges.

Russian FM: Iran-Russia Cooperation Regional Stability

Lavrov, for his part, reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to expanding relations with Tehran. He said discussions with Iranian officials had covered political, economic, commercial and cultural cooperation, highlighting oil and gas, energy, transport, communications, media, culture, science and higher education as areas with considerable potential.

The Russian foreign minister also stressed the importance of continued diplomatic consultations and closer coordination on Caspian Sea issues, saying cooperation between the two countries could help protect their shared interests and strengthen regional stability.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Lavrov, describing the discussions as intensive and productive. The two diplomats reviewed bilateral relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, as well as developments in the Persian Gulf, the Caucasus, Ukraine and West Asia.
