According to the Iranian Army Navy’s public relations office, the tanker had switched off its tracking systems and was attempting to pass through a restricted and unsafe area when it struck naval mines, sustaining damage and catching fire.
The Iranian Navy stated that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and unsafe for vessels that violate regulations or attempt to pass through without coordination.
It emphasized that vessels must coordinate with the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to ensure safe passage through the strategic waterway.
