Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, has said that senior officials from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan who recently visited Tehran for quadrilateral talks with Iranian officials were not carrying any message or conditions from the United States.

Speaking to Iran Press, Azizi referred to the visit by Ibrahim Kalin, head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT); Khalid bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s defense minister; and Asim Munir, Pakistan’s chief of army staff. The three officials held meetings with Iran’s president and the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

Azizi described the participation of senior officials from the three regional countries in the Tehran talks as indicative of Iran’s standing and role in ongoing regional developments. He also stressed the importance of sustaining such diplomatic contacts and consultations.

Asked whether the delegation had come to Tehran to convey a message, request or set of conditions from Washington, Azizi rejected that interpretation.

“Our assessment is that this was not the case at all, and the delegation did not come to Iran to convey messages from the Americans,” he said.
