Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has strongly condemned territorial claims made by the United Arab Emirates and Canada regarding three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf, describing the statements in a joint declaration by Abu Dhabi’s crown prince and the Canadian prime minister as provocative and interventionist.

Baqaei stressed that Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb are inseparable and eternal parts of Iran’s territory, saying the repetition of baseless claims would not alter established geographical, historical or legal realities.

He also condemned Canada’s decision to support the UAE’s claims against Iran, describing it as short-sighted and contrary to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

The spokesman noted that Canada itself faces territorial claims from the U.S. administration, arguing that Ottawa’s position could entail international responsibility for the Canadian government.

Baqaei urged the UAE to respect the principle of good neighborliness rather than persist in futile territorial claims against a major neighboring country.
