Mohammadnejad defeated Russia's Zaur Uguev, a world and Olympic champion, 9–2 in the 61kg final, while heavyweight Zare overwhelmed Russia's Abdulla Kurbanov 11–0 to secure Iran's second gold medal in the four weight categories contested on Saturday.
According to the Iranian Wrestling Federation, the finals and bronze-medal matches in the 61kg, 70kg, 86kg and 125kg divisions were held on Saturday.
Mohammadnejad defeats Olympic champion to win 61kg gold
Ahmad Mohammadnejad Javan produced an outstanding performance in the 61kg division, progressing through the draw before defeating one of the category's most accomplished wrestlers in the final.
After receiving a first-round bye, he edged India's Nikhil 10–9 in his opening bout and then overcame American Marcus Blaze 3–2 in the quarter-finals.
The Iranian secured his place in the final with a 3–1 victory over Kazakhstan's Asyl Aitakin in the semi-finals before defeating Uguev 9–2 to claim the gold medal.
Zare dominates heavyweight division
Amirhossein Zare was equally impressive in the 125kg category, powering his way to the final with a series of commanding victories.
Following a first-round bye, he defeated India's Jaspuran Singh 11–0 in the second round and dispatched Jamaica's Aaron Johnson 10–0 in the quarter-finals.
Zare maintained his dominance in the semi-finals, beating American Wyatt Hendrickson 10–0 to set up a final against Russia's Abdulla Kurbanov.
The Iranian heavyweight then completed his campaign with an 11–0 victory over Kurbanov, adding another gold medal to Iran's tally.
Khalili and Qasempour eliminated
Iran's other two representatives in Saturday's four weight categories, Sina Khalili and Kamran Qasempour, were unable to reach the medal bouts.
In the 70kg division, Khalili opened his campaign with an 8–0 win over Uzbekistan's Yarshalov after a first-round bye. However, he lost 6–1 to Mongolia's Tumur Ochir in the quarter-finals. Ochir's subsequent defeat to a Russian wrestler ended Khalili's hopes of advancing through the repechage.
In the 86kg category, Qasempour began with a 5–3 victory over Bulgaria's Olympic champion Magomed Ramazanov. He then lost to Kyrgyzstan's Malik Shavayev by technical fall after trailing 3–1. Shavayev's defeat to an American opponent in the following round meant Qasempour was also eliminated.
Iran's two victories in the finals provided a significant boost to the country's campaign at the championships, with Mohammadnejad and Zare both delivering gold-medal performances against Russian opponents.
