Iran's Deputy FM:

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi says that the U.S. and the U.K. lack the legitimacy to comment on human rights due to their widespread violations of the rights of their own citizens and other nations.

He made the remarks at a ceremony unveiling annual reports on human rights violations in the U.S. and the U.K, prepared in accordance with a resolution passed by the Iranian Parliament.

“We are unveiling the reports on human rights violations by the United States and U.K. at a time when the aggressive and criminal United States continues its human rights-violating actions in various areas, particularly against independent nations. U.K., too, which claims to support human rights, commits widespread human rights violations,” he said.

He added that both countries must be held accountable by the international community and their own populations for violating people’s rights.

Referring to the more extensive report on the human rights situation in the United States, the deputy foreign minister said it would be inaccurate to conclude that the U.K. commits fewer human rights violations than the U.S.

Unfortunately, he said, the United States is at the forefront of human rights violations among countries worldwide.

Gharibabadi also said message exchanges through Qatari mediators are continuing, with Iran’s seven-day proposal serving as the basis for resolving issues.

He stressed that Iran did not start the war and has the right to self-defense until the military aggression ends completely and permanently. He added that Iran is prepared for any scenario.

Addressing U.S. threats to use tactical nuclear weapons against Iran, Gharibabadi warned that such a move would lead to the collapse of the international nuclear legal order and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) regime.

He said Iran would not remain passive or limit its response to legal complaints, but would take appropriate and proportionate action.
