Iranian Energy Minister says electricity demand across the country’s industrial sector is now fully met, adding that Iran has compensated for war-related damage to its power infrastructure.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 26th Iran International Electricity Exhibition, Abbas Aliabadi said the country’s electricity generation capacity has increased 14-fold since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

He noted that electricity consumption has fallen by around 6 percent over the past two years, dropping from a peak of 88,000 megawatts to less than 75,000 megawatts. Electricity supplied to the petrochemical sector has increased by 11 percent, while supply to the industrial sector as a whole has risen by 3 percent.

Outlining the strategic plans of the Islamic Republic of Iran to expand international cooperation within the electrical industry, the Minister of Energy announced comprehensive and intensive negotiations with various countries, including Russia, Belarus, and regional nations, aimed at attracting foreign investment, emphasizing that the necessary legal and operational frameworks for investing in Iran’s power sector are fully established.

The minister highlighted the dimensions of cooperation between Iran and Belarus in the economic and engineering fields: “To develop mutual relations, an investment volume of approximately three billion dollars has been planned, of which about one billion dollars has already been realized, with the remaining two billion dollars allocated for the implementation of future joint projects.”

Still, emphasizing Iran’s achievement of remarkable capabilities in engineering and infrastructure project execution, he added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran not only welcomes foreign investment but is also fully prepared to invest and participate in engineering services and project implementation in other countries.”

Furthermore, the Minister of Energy reported on ongoing consultations with Russian counterparts and a number of European countries to deepen cooperation, stressing that comprehensive support for investors and the removal of existing barriers to project implementation are permanently prioritized on the agenda of the Ministry of Energy.

Held under the slogan “The Electricity Industry: The Foundation of Resilience,” the exhibition opened in Tehran with 350 Iranian and 70 foreign companies showcasing their latest technologies, products and capabilities across the electricity industry.
