Speaking at the ceremony, Ali Darabi, Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, said 149 historical buildings and museums had been damaged during recent attacks, describing the strikes as a clear violation of international conventions protecting cultural heritage.
Darabi said the protective measures taken by the ministry had been successful, stressing that despite the damage to buildings, “not a single historical artifact” across the country had been damaged, thanks to the efforts of ministry staff.
A central part of the ceremony was devoted to honoring five prominent figures for their contributions and lasting impact on Iran’s cultural heritage.
